BACKGROUND & CURRENT WORK

Originally from Stoke-on-Trent, I went on to complete an MA (Hons) in Scandinavian Studies and English Literature at the University of Edinburgh, graduating with a 2:1 and a distinction in spoken Norwegian in 2018. I have been working as a translator (NO/DA>EN) and editor (EN) since then, but I have experience working in a variety of industries, including: publishing, pharmacy, child care, teaching, farming, retail, hospitality and volunteering.

After six years of living between the UK and Norway, I moved back to the UK permanently in 2019 to begin my MA, focusing on: literary and commercial translation; subtitling; translating for international organisations; and translation technologies. Whilst completing my MA, I completed the Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce's SME mentoring programme, and continued working as a freelance translator/editor, a library assistant, and a volunteer book reviewer for the science fiction magazine Shoreline of Infinity. I also participated in the National Centre for Writing's 2019/20 Emerging Translator Mentorship. After completing the taught components of my MA, I conducted a research dissertation on the quality of neural machine translation between Bokmål and Nynorsk, and graduated in December 2020 with a distinction.

I work on regular commercial translation and editing projects from Norwegian and Danish, specialising in institution/business-to-consumer and inter-institutional texts. I work with both LSPs and direct clients, from UK-based publishers and Norwegian literary agencies to the Norwegian government and small independent businesses.

I am open to working with new clients - please feel free to get in touch via the contact form.
